Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a great spring break!!! I am looking forward to our last month of the school year together!
This what we will be doing in K1 this week:
Reading: Our unit is all about getting help when we need it. We will be reading two stories: The Little Engine that Could and You Can Do It, Curious George. The sight words for this week are look, saw, very, put, out. Our sounds to practice are /z/ and /v/. The spelling words are:
Sentence: I saw a duck at the zoo.
Math: The students will be learning about weight a well as volume. We will play with balance scales to compare the weights of items. The assessment on this chapter will be on Friday.
Religion: This week's lesson is about how after death there is life. We will talk about Jesus' resurrection and how his sacrifice gives us new life! An email with the questions for this chapter's assessment will go out on Wednesday. The assessment will be on Friday.
Science: To go with our religion chapter on new life, we will be talking about the life cycle of a butterfly!

This week in K1 we will finish up our discussion on the story of Easter. We will have our subtraction test on Monday. There is no spelling test or sight word test this week. We mostly will be having some fun preparing for Easter!
Don't forget dismissal will be at 11:50 on Wednesday.

Here is what we will be working on this week:
Reading: This week's lesson is about family outings. We will hear the stories Someone Bigger and One of Three. We will also read an information article called Cross-Country Trip that teaches us about different places we can visit and what you do there. The new sight words this week are have, one, ask, help, every, walk. The sounds we will be practicing are /l/ and /w/. We will have our sight word test on Thursday and our spelling test on Friday. This week's spelling words and sentence will be as follows:
dust, wish, land, ask, God
bonus word - only
Sentence - I can ask God for help.
Math: We will continue to practice with subtraction. We will work through various activities and centers to become more comfortable writing and solving subtraction number sentences.
Religion: We finished our Stations of the Cross book and are focusing on the Resurrection Eggs and deeper discussion of what happened to Jesus. We also will have the opportunity to portray some of the Stations of the Cross as a class. Keep an eye out for a special video featuring your kids coming soon :)

Here is what we will be doing this week in K1:
Reading: Our unit 5 test will be on Monday. Then we will begin our 6th and final unit for the year!! This week's lesson is all about values and trying your best. We will be learning the /u/ sound and the words do, went, just, down, little, only. The stories for the week are Curious George Makes Pancakes and Kittens First Full Moon.
Math: We are moving on to subtraction! The students will learn the word and symbol minus and begin to work on building and solving subtraction number sentences.
Religion: We will finish up our Stations of the Cross booklet this week by learning about stations 12-14. We also will start using Resurrection Eggs to learn more specifically what Easter is all about.
Science: Last week we planted radish seeds. This week the students will observe and journal about what changes they see in their plants. On Friday they will take them home!
Spelling Test: This week's test will challenge them a little more. We are moving on to four letter words and they will have a sentence to write. Make sure to practice starting the sentence with a capital letter and ending it with a period!

This week will be a lot of reviewing before we begin new units next week. Here is what we will be working on:
Reading: This unit is all about food and where it comes from. We will hear the stories Bread Comes to Life and Pie in the Sky. We will be reviewing all the letters we've been working on as well as the sight words we have learned. There will be an assessment next week on this unit.
Math: We are spending one more week on addition before we move on to subtraction! We will play some games to practice writing and solving addition number sentences and take an assessment at the end of the week.
Religion: The students will learn about stations 8-11 and will continue to work on pages for their Stations of the Cross booklet.
Spelling test will be on Friday this week, make sure to practice!

Happy Monday! I hope you all enjoyed the four day weekend and had a chance to relax or get out of town for a bit!
Here is what is happening this week in K1:
Reading: We are revisiting animals this week and will hear the stories Red Eyes, Blue Feathers and Chameleon, Chameleon. The new sight words are he, away, must, no, by, there. We will be working on two sounds this week: /h/ and /k/. Our sight word quiz and our spelling test will be on Friday this week so that the kids don't lose a day to study. They did a great job on the first spelling test!
Math: We will continue to practice with addition and creating number sentences. Last week we only worked with numbers to five so this week we will move on to numbers to ten. The assessment will be on Thursday.
Religion: This week the students will learn about stations 5 to 7. We also will have a chance to go through the stations of the cross with Deacon Al on Friday!
Science: Since our stories last week were all about life cycles and we learned about planting, this week the students will plant their own seeds. We will observe and watch them grow and keep a journal of the changes we see.
Don't forget that if you have not done so already, you can order your child's plate that they worked so hard on to support the school and the upcoming auction.

Hello everyone! Thank you to all of you who signed up to come and read to the class this week. We are looking forward to having you share your favorite Dr. Seuss books with us!! Please check your child's folder tomorrow afternoon as there will be a new sight word list as well as our very first spelling list. Don't forget we have no school on Friday and next Monday!
Here is what we are learning this week:
Reading: Our books are about life cycles this week. We will hear Oscar and the Frog and Zinnia's Flower Garden. The sound we will be practicing is /e/. The new sight words are: she, all, over, when, her, some.
Math: We are finally starting addition stories!!! We will learn all about the plus sign and equal sign and what they mean. We will spend the next two weeks writing and solving addition number sentences.
Religion: Over the next few weeks we will be learning about the Stations of the Cross. The students will spend each day focusing on one of the stations and create a book to help them remember them by. This week we will work through stations 1-4.

Can you believe it is already March?! The year will be over before we know it!! Don't forget this Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. Our school mass will be at 10 am instead of 8:30 this week.
Here's a look at what we are doing in K1 this week:
Reading: This week's stories are all about animals growing up. We will hear the books A Tiger Grows Up and Leo the Late Bloomer. We will be learning two new sounds this week; /x/ and /j/. Our new words are ate, could, was, good, said, then. This Thursday is also Dr. Seuss' birthday! Friday will be dedicated to Dr. Seuss!! Keep and eye out for a sign-up genius to come in and read your favorite Dr. Seuss book to our class!
Math: Our assessment on measurement will be on Monday this week. Then we will begin and finish a quick chapter reviewing sets and attributes of shapes. Our assessment on this chapter will be on Thursday.
Religion: As we enter the Lenten season, we will be learning what Lent is and how to prepare our hearts. We will be making prayer pots that we will work on throughout the weeks leading up to Easter. Please use these prayer pots to continue the discussion of what Lent is and means at home.

Our school auction is coming up quickly and this year we are doing a new project. Our class worked so hard making beautiful plates that are available for you to purchase. Each of your children filled in a cross with their fingerprints and the plate says "God is Good, All the Time." They turned out great and we would love for you to purchase your child's to help support our school. To order please fill out this form and return it to school.
This is what is happening in K1 this week: \
Reading: We have our unit 4 assessment today and will begin our new unit today as well. This week's stories are about friendship and working together. We will hear Simon and Molly + Hester and Zin! Zin! a Violin. The sound for the week is /o/ and our new words are make, them, play, say, new, give.
Math: We will be working with length and height again and practice measuring using non-standard units such as cubes. We will have our assessment on this chapter at the end of the week.
Religion: Our new chapter is about how God cares for everything that he has created. We will hear the story of the Good Shepherd. Our assessment will be on Friday of this week. Please look out for an email with the questions.

Happy Valentine's Day week!!
There are lots of things happening at our school and in K1 this week!! Tuesday is our Valentine's Day Party. Please join us at 1:00 for the celebration! Thursday we have a visitor coming to our classroom to teach us all about dental hygiene! Friday is crazy shoe day! Please see the guidelines I emailed out. Here is a look at what we will be learning:
Reading: All of our stories this week are about discovering new things! Today we read the silly story Duck and Goose and tomorrow we will read Curious George's Dinosaur Discovery. We are reviewing all our sight words and sounds in preparation for a test next week. We are continuing to work on blending sounds to make and read words!
Math: We are finishing up our chapteron number facts this week. Last week we worked with cubes to compose and decompose numbers. This week we are using five and ten frames to do the same. We are working on writing number sentences as well. We will have our assessment on this chapter at the end of the week.
Religion: Our new lesson is all about how God should come first in our lives. We will hear four different scripture stories to help us understand this concept. We will end the week meeting with our Pride Groups!
Social Studies: With President's Day next Monday, we will hear stories and make some crafts about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington!
