Hello K1 families!
Fall break is finally upon us! Don't forget there is no school on Friday October 12th and Monday October 15th. School will resume on Tuesday October 16th.
In honor of Saint John XXIII's feast day, our school mass will be held on Thursday this week as opposed to Wednesday. Please make note if you were planning to attend.
We will be having a contest for our school Christmas card. Please see the below information and the attached flyer:
We know it's only October, but we need to get a jump on this year's official St. John XXIII Christmas card! All St. John students from grades Kinder-8th are invited to submit an original piece of religious artwork to the front office. One entry per person please... we have a lot of students who will be submitting, and we want to be fair! Please see the flyer at the end of this post for more details to be considered.
Entries must be submitted by Tuesday, November 20th.
The winning submission will be used for this year's official St. John XXIII Christmas card. Good luck!
Here is what we will be working on in our classroom this week:
Reading - Our lesson this week is on sounds and language and the students will hear the stories Amelia's Show and Tell Fiesta and Mice Squeak, We Speak. We will be working on the /t/ sound and learn the word "we." The students will continue to practice using sensory words to describe the way that things look, smell, sound, feel, and taste,
Math - We will finish up our chapter on counting and numbers 0-10 and composing and decomposing numbers to five. The students will engage in centers to practice these skills and will be assessed at the end of the week.
Religion - We will continue to learn about creation and how God made everything in the world for us and it is our responsibility to care for his creations.
Social Studies - Monday October 8th is Columbus Day. The students will learn about who Columbus was and engage in various science activities around the concept of sinking and floating.
Have a great week and enjoy the long weekend,
Miss Lauren Cordier
