Happy December K1 families!
We have a busy month ahead of us!! Some dates to remember for classroom and school events:
Monday December 3rd: Advent Wreath blessing in the courtyard at 8:15
Friday December 7th: 6th grade marketplace in courtyard. Student are welcome to bring money to shop for handmade items by our 6th graders. Small bills are best (1s or 5s). All money collected will go to purchasing supplies to donate to various catholic charities in the valley.
Wednesday December 12th: School Christmas concert. Students arrive at 5:30; concert begins at 6. Please stay for the whole concert and after a final song by the whole school in the courtyard you may pick up your child from our classroom.
December 10-13: The Scholastic Book is heading our way! Students, staff and families are invited to visit the school library for all the fun! Look for a Scholastic flyer in your child’s backpack for a sneak peek of some of the amazing books at this year’s fair!
Thursday December 20th: K1 Christmas Party at 1 pm. If you are safe environment compliant please join us for this celebration!
Friday December 21st: Kindergarten Nativity walk through at 11:15. Again you may join us if you are safe environment compliant.
All of this will be coming home in hard copy in the red folder tomorrow as well!
Here is what we will be working on in our classroom this week:
Reading/Science - Our theme is animal bodies and the students will hear the stories A Zebra's World and What Do You Do With a Tail Like This? Our high frequency words will be "you" and "what" and our new sound is /f/. We also will be working on identifying complete sentences. In class this week your child will be assigned an animal that they will be learning about for an animal report. We will complete all research for this project in school and at home you will need to fill out the report and make a diorama of the animal's habitat. All details for this project will be in the homework packet this week.
Math - We will continue working through our chapter on numbers to 100 this week. We will specifically work on counting numbers 30 - 100 and representing the numbers using base ten blocks.
Religion - We will talk about the second week of Advent and how Mary said yes to being the Mother of God.
Have a wonderful week!
