Hello all! I hope you had a great long weekend.
This week we will be dying our shirts for field day, take our trip to the zoo, kick off Catholic Schools week with a world rosary on Friday, and students may wear their uniforms to mass this weekend to earn a free dress day on Monday the 28th.
Don't forget for the field trip your child may wear jeans with our school polo/sweatshirt. They may also wear a hat if they wish. Please sunscreen your child the morning of as well. Lunches must be in a brown bag and make sure everything in your child's lunch can be thrown away. We are looking forward to a great day of fun!
The world rosary will begin at11:20 on Friday. All are welcome to join us. Kindergarten students may wear a plain yellow t-shirt for this day but it is not required. Please do not go out of your way to get a yellow shirt!
Lastly, a note from the office: As we continue to accept kindergarten applications for the 2019-2020 school year, please consider recommending St. John to your family and friends. We are currently accepting applications for all grade levels.
The deadline for Kinder applications is January 18th!
As current families, our re-registration will take place in February. Be on the lookout for more information!
Here is what we will be working on this week in our classroom:
Reading: Our theme is nature all around. The words we will be learning are find, from, but, this, come, on. Our sound is /g/ and the students will hear the story It is the Wind. We will finish up this chapter next week as well.
Math: The students will be assessed on ordinal numbers and we will work on a new chapter on Calendar Patterns. The students will practice putting both the days of the week and the months of the year in order.
Religion: We will begin to learn about the miracles of Jesus. We will revisit this weekend's gospel of the wedding at Cana where Jesus performed His first miracle. The students will also learn about the story of the loaves and fishes and when Jesus calmed the storm. They will be able to differentiate between a miracle and magic as well.
Social Studies: In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day the students will learn about who Martin was and the dream that had. The students will learn that even though we all may look different on the outside we are all the same on the inside. The students will come up with their own dreams they have for themselves, their family, or the world.
Below I will be posting the coupon for free dress day next Monday. If your child wears their uniform to mass this weekend please sign off on the coupon and return it on the 28th.
Have a great week!
