Hello K1 families!
What a wonderful and busy first week we had! I know that it is going to be such a great year. Each week I will post updates of what is going on at school as well as a quick run down of what we will be learning about in each subject. This week will be our first school mass at 8:30 am. You are more than welcome to join us for school mass but for new families please note that parents need to sit in the back behind students or in the side pews.
Here are some things we will be working on in our classroom this week:
Reading: Before we dive into our reading curriculum fully, we will take the next couple of weeks to review some skills they already know. The students will use various nursery rhymes to review the letters of the alphabet. We will be reviewing letter names as well as practicing how to write each of the letters correctly using lines. This week we will review letters A-E. The students will also continue working on a color book we started last week.
Math: The students will have the opportunity to play with some of our math manipulatives that we will use throughout the year. They will familiarize themselves with these materials by participating in various centers to practice counting out 10 objects.
Religion: Our first religion lesson will teach the students about the Trinity. We will learn that the Trinity means there are three persons in one God and those three persons are God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. To help the students understand this complex topic a bit more, we will also have a lesson on Jesus God the Son. We will practice making the sign of the cross and begin to learn the Glory Be prayer. You can begin practicing this at home with your kids as well.
Social Studies: To further last weeks discussions on classroom rules and school rules we will learn about laws and why they are important.
Have wonderful week!
