Happy Sunday K1 families!
It was so great seeing so many of you at curriculum night on Wednesday. I hope that I was able to answer the questions you had and that you are as excited as I am about the year ahead of us. Also a big thank you to those of you who took a wish fish to help our classroom out out! I really appreciate your generosity.
This week we are diving into our first lesson in our reading curriculum! It will be a fun and busy week ahead! Here is a look at what we will be working on:
Reading: Our first lesson is all about families. We will be reading two stories that relate to this general topic - Building with Dad and What Makes a Family. The students will be introduced to our first high frequency word: I. All week we will continue to work through our review of letters and practice to proper way to write both the upper and lower case letters. For our grammar, we will talk about what a noun is and learn different nouns we can use for people. This week we will also begin our center rotations and work in small groups to practice rhyming, begin reading emergent texts, and to work on handwriting.
Math: We will have our first assessment on numbers 1-5 on Monday. Then we will work through numbers 6-10. We will be working in our workbooks and reviewing counting objects up to ten as well as writing the numerals.
Religion: This week we will finish up our booklet on creation and continue to think about how we can show our respect for the world that God made for us. We will conclude this lesson with a discussion on things that God made versus things that are man-made. We also will be watching the Beginners Bible portrayal of the creation story to wrap up and review all that we learned.
Thank you and have a great week!
