St. John Running Club began last week and all kids are welcome to participate! Running club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:20 in the gym before school begins. You do not have to sign up and if you can only make one of the two days that is perfectly fine! Anyone who is interested please meet Coach D in the gym on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:20.
Here is what we will be working on in our classroom this week:
Reading - We begin our first lesson this week! Our stories and discussions will be all about families! The kids will hear the stories Building with Dad and What Makes a Family. They also will be introduced to our first high frequency word, I. We will continue to review letter names and formation and will spend some more time practicing with rhyming words. This week I will also begin DIBELS testing for the beginning of the year.
Math - We will be reviewing numbers 1-10 this week and learn the proper way to write each of those numbers. The students will participate in more hands on centers to practice counting as well as to find one more and one less.
Religion - To tie into our reading lesson on families, this week we will spend some time talking about the Holy Family. The students will learn about Mary and how she became Jesus' mother. We will also will learn about Saint Joseph and the kids will understand that while God is Jesus' heavenly Father, Joseph was his earthly father.
Social Studies - This week's social studies lesson is about families near and far. We will talk about family members and how they can live in different places.
Have a wonderful week!
