I hope you had a restful weekend! This week we are learning all about apples!! Today we will have our apple taste test and tomorrow we will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day! We will learn about his life and make a special craft.
This is what else we will be working on this week:
Reading: Our final lesson in this unit is all about helping others. Today we read the story of The Little Red Hen and later this week we will read the book The Handiest Things in the World to discuss tools and how they can help us. We are practicing with the /s/ sound. This lesson is a review of everything we've worked on for the past month. Please be reviewing our HFW - I, like, the, and. You can also be reviewing the letter sounds /m/ and /s/ as well as rhyming words and recognizing the beginning sounds of words. Next Monday, October 2nd, we will be taking our first unit assessment over all of these concepts.
Math: This week we finish up our chapter on counting and numbers 0 to 10. We will continue to work on finding one more and one less, show the same and more, know how many more, and find how many in all. The students will be using their fingers to count on and be introduced to short math story problems. Our chapter assessment will be on Friday.
Religion: We finish up our chapter on loving others the way that God loves us this week. We will hear the scripture story of the stranger who turned into a friend. The students will be coming up with ideas of how they can show their love for others and love in the way that God loves each of us. Our assessment for this chapter will be on Wednesday. Please practice the following questions with your child so they are prepared:
1) Who does God love? Everyone
2) When we show love for others who are we reflecting? God
3) How can you show love in the classroom? ie. sharing materials, cleaning up, respectful listener, etc.
Have a fantastic last week of September!!
